HERITAGE & SAVOIR-FAIRE

Since its creation in 1904, Coty has been a visionary company. Its founder, François Coty, is widely recognised as one of the pioneers of modern perfumery. Discover our extraordinary journey from then to today.

A PIONEERING SPIRIT

With Ambre Antique, Coty pioneered the modern amber fragrance family, which has since become one of the most prolific in perfumery. As for the chypre family, which has given rise to so many olfactive classics, it would arguably never have existed without its landmark fragrance, Chypre de Coty, launched in 1917.
Just as painters of the era were exploring new techniques to reinvent the art of painting, Coty understood the power of molecules to enhance nature and extend its expression over time. By combining, for example, Centifolia rose with alpha-ionone, a molecule naturally present in violet, he created a rose that felt more true to nature than nature itself, with unprecedented longevity: La Rose Jacqueminot, a fragrance still celebrated 120 years later.

This concept of “augmented nature” remains at the heart of Coty today, through exclusive extractions and raw materials that reinvent olfactive archetypes such as vanilla and bergamot, while giving them a longevity that nature alone cannot provide.

FRENCH REFINEMENT

Born in Corsica, a Mediterranean land rich in fragrant plants, Coty settled in Paris, the epicentre of high society and luxury. In 1907, he became the first perfumer to open a boutique on Place Vendôme, anticipating the importance of the retail experience that is so central to luxury today.

For Coty, the bottle was meant to dress the fragrance, not merely contain it. His encounter with master glassmaker René Lalique gave rise to magnificent bottles, many of which are now displayed in museums or sought after by collectors.

ARTISTIC COLLABORATIONS

Coty also collaborated with other artists, including illustrators Sem and Leonetto Cappiello, who brought his fragrances to life through poetic and audacious advertising.

Coty was more than a perfumer: he understood, ahead of his time, the power of marketing and storytelling to create desire for his fragrances among women. Naming a fragrance L’Aimant (1927), or orchestrating the breaking of a bottle of La Rose Jacqueminot, allowing its fragrance to spread throughout the Louvre department store before it became a bestseller (1904), were among the bold ideas he used to win over new customers.

A PIONEER

L’Origan, Emeraude, L’Effleurt… fragrance successes followed one after another. As demand grew, Coty expanded, opening the Cité des Parfums, combining manufacturing facilities with new offices.

In 1912, Coty opened its first branches in London, New York and Moscow, before expanding into Asia and South America.

As a visionary, it would not limit itself to perfume. Powders, cosmetics and men's products enriched the portfolio, pioneering new beauty rituals.

FROM THEN TO TODAY

Coty’s genius also lay in its interest in fragrance bases, pre-blended compositions combining molecules and natural ingredients in particularly bold proportions.

To bring Ambre Antique back to life in 2025, Coty succeeded in recreating Ambréine S, a legendary base that had disappeared from the perfumer’s palette. Its extraordinary signature has also been used in the Osmiums from the Infiniment Coty Paris collection, and today Coty has exclusive use of this iconic base.

Working with the finest ingredients goes hand in hand, for Infiniment Coty Paris, with collaborating with the greatest perfumers of our time. Recognizing their expertise and inventiveness is a given for a house that carries forward the legacy of a pioneering perfumer.

CONTEMPORARY PERFUMERY

A sensory journey into the heart of raw materials, Infiniment Coty Paris pays tribute to the savoir-faire and avant-garde spirit of a century-old house. Yet it is a deeply contemporary brand, created to meet the expectations of today’s fragrance connoisseurs. The pursuit of olfactive perfection is matched by exceptional lasting power.

Beyond savoir-faire and innovation, Infiniment Coty Paris celebrates the meeting point between emotion and the art of fragrance.
